Help Congo's conflict survivors
"The worst moment in my life is right now. We want peace. That's all. Peace so that we can go back home."
Banza Masamba, 47. Hairdresser
"There are 24 of us in the camp, living in four small huts. In our village we had four big houses. Only one is still standing. The men who drove us away are living in it. They smashed our other houses and used them for firewood. We fled when we heard the shooting, in the middle of the night, and we walked for four days. People from other villages saw us approaching and gave us bananas. And they welcomed us into their homes to rest for the night."
Banza is one of the survivors of one of the world’s deadliest civil wars. Conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has already killed more than five million people. One million people have been forced from their homes by systematic murder and rape.
Oxfam is there
Oxfam supplies, installs and maintains water tanks, wash stands and tap stands in the camps around Goma in the DRC. With thousands of people living together in cramped conditions, ensuring there is enough clean water for everyone is crucial. Without it, disease spreads quickly and people are forced to search for water. For women this is particularly dangerous.
With your support we can reach thousands more people still at risk.
