Aleema Shivji is passionate about building a more inclusive, equitable world through fighting inequality and changing systems. She has 20+ years of strategic and operational experience in the public and not-for-profit sectors in Europe, Asia, North America, Australasia, the Middle East, Sub-Saharan Africa, and the Caribbean.
Until July 2024, she led Oxfam GB’s Impact division, which provides programmatic partnering and carries out advocacy and campaigning. She was asked to step up as Interim CEO before Halima Begum started in post in 2024.
Significant prior roles include Executive Director of Impact and Investment at Comic Relief, and 15 years at the humanitarian organisation Humanity & Inclusion, including as their UK Chief Executive.
Aleema is a Member of Council of the University of Sussex, and a member of the Association of Charitable Foundations Funder Collaborative Hub strategy group. She was also a Founding Trustee of the Start Network, a membership-body and funder working to transform the humanitarian aid system.
Originally a physiotherapist, she also holds a Masters in International Relations (Conflict, Security and Development) from the University of Sussex.
