The problems that need to be tackled are huge, but we can all do something. Leaving a legacy is something I can do.”

Margo's Oxfam Legacy

Compassion and justice are in Margo’s DNA. Her father was a conscientious objector during the war, something she’s incredibly proud of to this day. For her, such values have been a driving force throughout her life. One which has led to a support for Oxfam that spans decades. Now, she’s including a gift in her Will so her values can live on.

My Connection to Oxfam

"From collecting 10p a week from schoolmates when I was 11 years old, to doing a 24 hour fast in sixth form - my support for Oxfam has spanned a long time.

Supporting Oxfam makes me feel a little less helpless about so many things that need changing. And I believe that small acts can hopefully make a difference – it’s the only thing that ever does.

That’s why I’ve been giving a monthly donation for years and most recently, I donated my handmade, silk wedding dress to an Oxfam shop. I hope that someone will be able to enjoy it as I did."

“Throughout my life, I’ve always been an advocate of women’s rights. When I first started teaching in Kent in the 70s I had to fight to wear trousers – it’s bonkers!

In a way, I like to think that my social work was through my teaching art. I always tried to broaden students’ horizons and educate them about the world, sowing the seeds that the world is much bigger than us.

I really believe we are all part of a huge community, and we all need each other. Honestly, I find the inequality that exists appalling, even in this country. We have a world of haves and have nots and we have to try and bridge that gap.”

Why Oxfam?

“I have done lots of little things to support people throughout my life, but you never feel it is enough. The problems to be tackled are huge but we can all do something.

Leaving a legacy to Oxfam is something I can do.

I haven’t had any children, but there are other families and generations that I can support. And Oxfam seems to cover all the things that are important to me. Inequality, women’s rights, education and tackling poverty and food insecurity around the world.

I absolutely trust Oxfam to spend my money wisely and I would urge more people to consider leaving money in their Wills for them. It’s a relatively small act that can help people far away that have so much less than us.”
