In response to the report on the UK’s progress towards achieving Net Zero by 2050, Oxfam’s Head of Government Relations, Sam Nadel said:

"It’s Groundhog Day - the latest Climate Change Committee report highlights once again the UK is way off the pace and scale needed to deliver on its climate targets. The Government can and should be demonstrating global leadership in combating climate change, but words must be backed up with meaningful action.

“We can no longer afford to ignore the science. We need rapid and genuine cuts in emissions if we are to have a fighting chance of averting the worst of the climate crisis.

“The Government must end all new fossil fuel projects and respond urgently to the demands of low-income countries for money to support people already facing the impacts of the climate crisis.

“Every day that leaders fail to act puts more lives and livelihoods on the line.”
