Responding to the Climate Change Committee's Progress Report 2024, Natalie Shortall, Oxfam GB Climate Justice Policy Advisor, said:

“This report is yet another reminder that the UK’s transition to a zero-carbon economy is not happening quickly enough.

“The new Government has an opportunity to restore the country’s reputation as a global climate leader and set the nation on course for a fast and fair transition to a greener future - generating shared prosperity for all and ensuring workers and communities are protected.

"The Labour Party’s pledge to turn the page on tackling the climate crisis is welcome. But it needs to start closing the book on the fossil fuel economy. As the climate crisis continues to wreck lives and push people deeper into poverty, rapid action is needed to cut emissions in a fair way and urgently step-up UK support to countries on the sharpest end of climate breakdown, including by meeting its international climate finance commitments.”
